About
Phila.FYI is a free newsletter about Philadelphia. Twice a week, straight to your inbox. We write about the Eagles, the neighborhoods, the food, city government, and whatever else is happening in the greatest city in America.
No algorithms. No corporate owner. No hedge fund telling us what to cover. Just four writers who actually live here.
The Team
Dana Price, Editor. Lives in Graduate Hospital. Covers sports, food, nightlife, and the general experience of being alive in Philadelphia. Has a cheesesteak ranking. Will defend it.
Terrell Watkins, Staff Writer. West Philly, born and raised. Overbrook High, then Penn. He reads City Council transcripts so you don't have to. Covers politics, education, and criminal justice. If your tax dollars are being wasted, he will find out.
Nina Lam, Staff Writer. Lives in Chinatown, right off Callowhill. She finds the stories hiding in plain sight. The dumpling shop on Washington Ave that has been open 22 years and still does not have a Google listing. The mural that nobody wrote about because it is in Kensington. She will make you want to walk out your front door.
Michelle Torres, Contributing Writer. Based in Jersey but spends half her time in Philly and loves her Birds. Senior reporter at the Jersey Ledger covering urban issues. Grew up in the Ironbound in Newark. She covers neighborhoods from the street level because that is where the actual stories are.
Why This Exists
Philadelphia has 1.6 million people and roughly 1.6 million opinions about where to get a roast pork sandwich. National media covers us when something blows up or when the Eagles make a run. The rest of the time we are on our own.
That is the gap. Local coverage that is actually opinionated, actually useful, and does not read like it was written by an intern at a content farm. We are not neutral. We are not balanced. We live here. We have opinions. You are going to hear them.
